We write about the work we do to amplify the voices of sex workers, create a unified community of sex workers, promote their rights, and foster positive change within the community. Our movement advocates for the decriminalization of sex work. Join us as we challenge stigma, promote compassion, and strive for a more inclusive South Africa where sex workers can thrive with autonomy and respect.

Twenty years ago, 70 women formed the Sisonke National Sex Workers’ Movement to combat stigma and discrimination. Inspired by Shane Peltzer, they push for decriminalizing sex work and advocate for sex workers’ rights across Africa. This Women’s Month, we honor their commitment to justice and equality. AMAAAAAAAANDLA!

Sisonke National Movement held its 2020 National Meeting bringing together key representatives from the sex worker community. We sincerely appreciate everyone who attended and engaged in this vital conversation.
